About Us

Salt Sanctuary was founded by a former mortgage banker and long time massage therapist. After extensive research, education and experience, visiting as many salt rooms across North America as possible, she decided that Boise was in need of a tranquil halotherapy experience and committed to bring this incredible holistic treatment to the community. Salt Sanctuary is designed to provide some of the cleanest air in Idaho to give your lungs a break. Great care has been taken to create an environmentally conscious space with natural and organic materials and when possible, locally sourced, ethically sourced and fair trade.

Salt Therapy

Halotherapy, or Dry Salt Therapy, is a 100% drug free, non invasive effortless treatment to assist the body to cleanse the lungs as well as invigorate the entire body with increased lung capacity and oxygen intake. Regular Halotherapy practice is an excellent way to aide breathing and improve your quality of life.

Halotherapy can be a great adjunct therapy to help the body to relieve the symptoms associated with skin and lung conditions. With origins in 1800's in Poland, Dry Salt Therapy was discovered as a healing modality by Dr. Feliks Boczkowski. He witnessed that salt mine workers generally were in excellent health and did not suffer from common respiratory ailments of the time, such as tuberculosis. Noticing a correlation between the salt exposure in the salt caves and respiratory health, he decided to build sanitariums in the natural caves, creating the first sanitarium in a salt cave with excellent results.

In the 1980's Russia developed the technology to create a microclimate based on the conditions in a salt cave. The technology made its way to North America in the 1990's with the halogenerator. Each of the three treatment rooms at Salt Sanctuary provide the same microclimate of that of a salt cave with the use of the halogenerator combined with salt on the walls and the floors.

This is a picture the Family Halotherapy Treatment Room at Salt Sanctuary in Boise, Idaho. Children enjoy playing with the toys or looking for treasures in the salt on the floor. Himalayan salt walls provide a warm and inviting light to the room. Parents enjoy relaxed happy children once the session has completed.

This is a larger treatment room for adults. Most enjoy meditating, reading, or just taking a quick brain break. Sometimes a much needed nap just happens.

How it works

Salt Sanctuary's treatment rooms contain thousands of pounds of Himalayan salt on the floor and walls. A halogenerator grinds pharmaceutical grade salt (99.99% pure Sodium Chloride) into fine, dry micro particles that are then circulated into the air of the treatment rooms. The salt acts as a natural anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-microbial agent. As you inhale, it opens your airways and kills bacteria which boosts your immune system. Halotherapy is a natural non invasive treatment for asthma and allergies. The salt that is not inhaled lands on exposed skin. Skin conditions are relieved by reducing redness and irritation. Halotherapy is a natural, drug free alternative for eczema and acne. It is important to keep in mind that salt therapy will not cure a condition, but it will help ease symptoms and act as a compliment to already established medical treatments.

Air in the Salt Sanctuary

Salt is anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and anti- fungal. The air born micro-particles of salt in the air combined with the salt on the floor and walls create an almost sterile breathing environment. At Salt Sanctuary, the air coming into the space is highly filtered and cleaned before being circulated into the treatments rooms providing the cleanest air possible.

After each session, the air from the session is circulated out through our special HVAC and fresh air is circulated into each of the rooms. Come and enjoy some very clean, lightly salted fresh air!

Clean fresh air is everywhere inside Salt Sanctuary.
